lover, in my words did you hear bitterness, or hurt
did you even hear my voice, or did you just hear a boy curse
did you think they were just to inflict back the pain, & point the finger
did you even bother to consider they came from my heart as it splintered
lover, how did love leave your eyes, did it hurt as they became hollow
you knew my heart, but you took hold of another’s hand & followed
did your eyes ever look back, or did it hurt less to let them turn cold
lover, my hands haven’t forgotten your tears, or their warmth as they rolled
lover, in my words did you hear bitterness, or hurt
did you even hear my voice, or did you just hear a boy curse
did you think they were just to inflict back the pain, & point the finger
did you even bother to consider they came from my heart as it splintered
lover, how did you think it better to turn your back
did you think your silence fitting because of our past
lover, do you remember it hard it to forget me, did it come at a cost
did you filter the memories ’til you could let go of my hand
did you rewrite our script just to choose another cast
lover, was i the villain, him the hero & you the damsel rescued at last
lover, in my words did you hear bitterness, or hurt
did you even hear my voice, or did you just hear a boy curse
did you think they were just to inflict back the pain, & point the finger
did you even bother to consider they came from my heart as it splintered
lover, words were your strong suit, & i struggled just to put a few together
you were the emotional one, but i’m getting beaten down by ones you buried in the dirt
was his heart the spade, yours the diamond & mine the clover
lover, were you his queen, him your king & i the joker
lover, in my words did you hear bitterness, or hurt
did you even hear my voice, or did you just hear a boy curse
did you think they were just to inflict back the pain, & point the finger
did you even bother to consider they came from my heart as it splintered
