a devil’s version

does your hand cast the first stone, or are your eyes the first to take it all in
could you not be bothered by her heart, as if she was made for your sin
i made her, but you behave as if she’s your right as she bares her skin
did you intend to use my daughter, or did you just not bother to guard her innocence
it aches knowing how she aches to be cherished, but doesn’t know my chest
i made ten thousand sunflowers to cover her, but you’d rather leave her undressed
i long for my lips to press her forehead, but how long will she settle for less
her running with a sunflower in her hair, in her white skirt, still makes me grin
it’s as if that moment still hasn’t come to it’s end, but i’m still waiting for it to begin
drops of blood roll off my cheeks as i plead for her, & i’d give anything to wipe her chin
i swear not being able to is the hardest thing i’ve had to face, as i collapse in our garden
the crown that was pressed in hurt less than her not knowing her worth has no end
my hands ache to wipe the dirt off her, & they shake against a heart i swear has frozen
it’s as if ‘just love me’ is written on her skin, but she’s settling for a devil’s version
