little girl

i made the heart in your chest. i made it to ache for the brokenness your tender ocean eyes notice, but i swear i did not make it to be broken. i made you creative to mirror my own head. i instilled your passion for words to match my own. i gave your lips their skill, and i’ve watched it as it’s grown. i created beauty itself, but when my hands formed you i was taken back as if beauty was something i hadn’t known.

i know you long to know my heart, but i swear i cherish knowing yours. i know you feel as if innocence and worth were stolen, as if i can’t restore. little girl, your chest is innocence, and your worth never diminished. i know the times your heart gets numb. it makes my own ache, and i swear that’s not my intent for my cherished one. i have heard all the songs, but i swear your laughter is more precious to my ears. i know the meaning in each of your tears.

i cherish your desire to follow my heart, despite and regardless. i cherish the sight of you with those i made you to bless. i cherish your eyes, and the oceans i put in them. i cherish the moments of my lips on your forehead. i made sunflowers to help you know i cherish you with my whole chest.

i made you, and i cherish you.
